On Thursday 24 October, Dudley Infant Academy officially named and opened their brand-new playground boat.
Pupils, parents and members of the local community were invited to join the celebrations and assist in naming the wooden vessel. The afternoon began with a visit from Yasmin Ornsby of the Hastings Fisherman’s Protection Society and local Fisherman Jim Adams and Hastings’ Fish Monger, Teri Coglan.
Pupils thoroughly enjoyed listening to their stories and asked some interesting questions about the local fishing industry.
This was followed by the official naming ceremony in the playground. Throughout the week many original names were suggested by the children and it was a very close vote, but ‘The Pride of Dudley’ received the loudest cheer.
Dudley Infant Academy Principal Stuart Maclean cut the ribbon and officially declared the boat open. At the end of the ceremony the Dudley community enjoyed listening to a collection of songs sung around the boat by local Sea Shanty singers.
The Parents of Dudley committee worked tirelessly to raise money for Dudley’s new playground boat and pupils are looking forward to many playtimes spent on the Pride of Dudley.
